*AutoCAD® plugin for calculating total lengths and areas of polylines*

MeteorSpec exists in two versions and both of them are available to download from Autodesk Exchange Apps.

### Total Length Calculation. Model Drawing and Assigning Data

Line long spans of engineering networks are simulated with lightweight polylines. Polylines for total length calculations should be drawn on a layer “meteor-spec-length”. Assigning (or changing) data to the polylines using the window “Object Data” or “Multiple Object Data”.

Network models can be created either in Model space, or in Paper space, at any layout tab of the drawing. A single drawing can comprise any number of engineering network models that are independent of each other and located at different layout tabs.

### Total Length Calculation. Calculations and Results

Calculation of summarized lengths of the model objects, reviewing the results via the window “Total Length Calculation”. To calculate objects specifications, the program searches for objects in current space. When making final reports, results are grouped. Within each group, lengths of objects of similar type are summarized to be output into the report table. The length of each object is defined as the length of a polyline in a drawing plus additional length value as specified by the User.

### Total Area Calculation. Model Drawing and Assigning Data

Boundaries of areas are simulated with lightweight polylines. Polylines for total area calculations should be drawn on a layer “meteor-spec-area”. Assigning (or changing) data to the polylines using the window “Object Data” or “Multiple Object Data”.

### Total Area Calculation. Calculations and Results

Calculation of summarized areas of the model objects, reviewing the results via the window ” Total Area Calculation”. Calculation results are output to the table appearing on work layer of the program, in the same space and the same tab where the object search was undertaken.

MeteorSpec can generate reports as specifications (summarized lengths and areas per object type) or as explications (list of all objects with detailed information). Report can be inserted in current drawing as text table or AutoCAD table, or optionally can be saved as external text file.

### Data Library

Data for objects are stored in data library. The User edits the data library to create equipment and material types list necessary for work, accounting for regional and national standards and specifics of the task to solve.

The data for Meteor-Spec objects are structured as follows: Category – Group – Type. The number of categories in the program is fixed to be four categories. Within each category, the User can define any number of groups, and each group can comprise any number of types according to the needs and tasks to be solved by the User.

The User may add, move and delete any names of types and entire groups. After adding new types and/or groups into the data library, those become available via object data assignment and view window. The User may use any categories to accumulate data, as the User finds appropriate, with no regard to their specialization.

### Drawing Units and Settings

The final output of the program is a table with model objects summarized lengths or summarized areas calculation to be represented in necessary units of measurement. The program works with any measurement units which you can set globally or individually per drawing.

Units of measurement and number of digits after the decimal point are set individually for Model space and for Paper space. Units of measurement assigned via this window are not related to the units of measurement of the AutoCAD system and thus they do not affect AutoCAD settings. Area measurement units will correspond to selected length units.
